Starter Kit: Datasets & APIs

Starter Kit: Datasets & APIs#

To make contributing as seamless as possible, we provide ready-to-use “Jump-Start” notebooks and curated datasets.

These templates demonstrate how to query spatial and environmental APIs, process geodata in cloud environments, and create publication-ready maps without starting from scratch.

Low Barrier to Entry

You can launch every starter notebook directly in your browser using the 🚀 icon (Google Colab or Jupyter4NFDI). Feel free to copy code snippets directly into your own HaCLAthon contribution!

Available Starter Modules#

IOER Monitor API

Spatial Indicators for Germany Learn how to query automated raster and vector layers on settlement density, building stock, and green spaces via OGC services (WCS/WFS).

Biodiversity Data (GBIF)

Global Species Occurrences Query species occurrence records from the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) and intersect them with spatial administrative boundaries.

How to Reuse These Templates#

  1. Test in Browser: Launch any module above to experiment with the code live in Jupyter.

  2. Extract Snippets: Copy relevant API queries or plotting functions for your own research question.

  3. Build Your Story: Connect these data streams with domain insights to create your own HaCLAthon chapter (see our Quick-Start Guide).
